Our Mission

aapiNHV is an intergenerational, pan-Asian collective in New Haven.

Our mission is to build power within our community through organizing, arts and critical education, storytelling and gathering, and by providing direct support. We, in solidarity with our allied communities, belong to a shared struggle for liberation, healing, and justice.

Our Values

Authenticity & Love

We believe that radical love requires us to break with the structures of our past that divide us and prevent us from being our authentic selves. As such, we welcome, hold space for, and support the many cultures, backgrounds, histories, experiences, and perspectives of our diverse AAPI community. In particular, we are committed to affirming and engaging with the tensions that define us.

Learning & Unlearning

We center and tap into the power of individual and collective learning & unlearning to become our healed, whole, and liberated selves. We choose to learn from our ancestors and each other the truth about our intertwined history, present, and future. We confront and undo internalized racial oppression wherever it exists.

Collective Power & Solidarity

We believe in the power of people coming together to transform ourselves, one another, our communities, and our institutions. Therefore, we commit to building collective power — including shared agency and accountability – with other marginalized communities. This means fostering leadership of those most impacted by oppression and grounding ourselves in solidarity with other aligned groups.

aapiNHV Voices

“I’m drawn to aapiNHV because it offers a type of solidarity and community with Asian Americans who are also invested and eager to contribute to and to learn from our collective experiences, our stories, and our histories.”

— Fahd V.

“Growing up in New Haven, I didn’t really have a place of support where I could go and talk about my experiences as an Asian American. I’m excited to keep coming back to aapiNHV month after month to be able to meet others who share similar experiences.”

— Janet Z.
